Introduction
UraniumX (URX) is an open-source Proof of Work Layer 1 blockchain designed as a rare-supply digital asset with long-term CPU mining and a Bitcoin Core-derived architecture. The network uses the yespowerurx mining algorithm, Dark Gravity Wave difficulty adjustment, and a maximum supply of 235,000 URX.
UraniumX is designed around decentralized peer-to-peer transfers and community-operated infrastructure. The project has no premine and describes its launch as a fair launch, with mining intended to remain accessible to CPU hardware rather than being optimized for GPU mining.
Project Background
UraniumX is a Bitcoin Core-derived Proof of Work blockchain focused on peer-to-peer digital transfers and a deliberately limited coin supply. The project describes URX as a rare collectors asset with an emission schedule extending across multiple decades.
The network uses an account and UTXO model derived from Bitcoin Core and operates without a central authority. Transactions are propagated through the peer-to-peer network, while new URX is issued through mining.
UraniumX uses yespowerurx, a modified version of the yespower Proof of Work algorithm. The algorithm is designed to be CPU-friendly and GPU-unfriendly, with the project's mining design intended to keep CPU mining accessible and reduce the advantage of specialized mining hardware.
Network difficulty uses Dark Gravity Wave and adjusts every block. The target block interval is approximately five minutes, allowing the network to continuously adjust mining difficulty as the amount of available hashing power changes.
URX supports eight decimal places, with amounts denominated down to mURX and micro-URX units. The project also provides open-source desktop software that functions as a wallet, full network node, and solo mining client.
UraniumX is released as open-source software under MIT and related project licensing. The project states that it is maintained by community developers and is not owned by a legal entity or centralized corporate organization.
History
The first UraniumX block was created on April 20, 2018. The project launched without a premine and established a long-term emission model intended to distribute the maximum 235,000 URX over approximately 70 years.
The original UraniumX mining implementation used Argon2ad. The project later changed its Proof of Work algorithm to modified yespowerurx after determining that changes in GPU mining made the previous algorithm less suitable for its CPU-focused mining objective.
The yespowerurx transition was implemented around block 106,500. The new algorithm was designed to be CPU-friendly, GPU-unfriendly, and ASIC-neutral, with the stated goal of preserving a broader opportunity for individual CPU miners to participate in network security.
UraniumX has maintained a community-driven development model, with the project's official website providing an active development roadmap and open-source source code. The project also maintains public mining pool and block explorer infrastructure.
The current UraniumX 2.0.0 software branch documents a five-minute block target, 235,000 URX maximum supply, and the modified yespowerurx Proof of Work algorithm. The public network remains operational, with the live mining pool reporting active miners, network hash rate, block production, and node connections.
The project's long emission schedule is expected to continue for decades, with the final URX projected to be mined around 2087 under the current supply model.
Tokenomics and Emissions
URX has a maximum supply of 235,000 coins. The project uses Proof of Work mining as its sole mechanism for issuing new URX and does not use a premine or an initial token allocation.
The initial block reward was 1 URX. The first emission stages reduced the reward from 1 URX to 0.5 URX and then to 0.25 URX. Subsequent subsidy reductions occur over progressively longer block intervals.
The current emission schedule documented by the project uses 210,240-block intervals for later reward reductions. The schedule is designed to extend URX issuance across approximately 70 years, with the final coins expected to be mined around 2087.
UraniumX targets approximately five-minute blocks. Difficulty is recalculated using Dark Gravity Wave on every block, allowing the network to respond continuously to changes in total mining power.
URX uses eight decimal places. The smallest units are denominated in micro-URX, while larger fractional values can be represented in mURX before reaching the full URX unit.
The project's current source documentation identifies a maximum money supply of 235,000 URX and a current block reward of 0.25 URX in the applicable emission period. The exact circulating supply changes continuously as new blocks are mined.
Roadmap
UraniumX maintains a community-driven development roadmap covering continued network operation, CPU-focused mining, software development, and long-term research into additional decentralization and cryptographic capabilities.
Long-term development includes maintaining the open-source blockchain and wallet software while preserving the project's CPU-oriented mining design. The project has also identified quantum-resistant mining and related cryptographic improvements as longer-term development objectives.
The public roadmap is maintained as a community document and is intended to evolve as contributors propose and implement new features. Development is centered on the continued operation of the decentralized network rather than a centralized corporate product roadmap.
Ongoing infrastructure includes public block explorers, mining pools, wallet software, source code, and community support resources. These components provide the operational infrastructure needed for users to run nodes, mine URX, verify transactions, and participate in the network.
