Introduction
KVANTA5 (KV5) is an independent Layer 1 Proof of Work blockchain designed for post-quantum secure settlement. The network uses SHA-256d mining and native P2QR transaction outputs secured by ML-DSA-87 signatures standardized under NIST FIPS 204 at Security Level 5.
KV5 launched its mainnet on June 1, 2026, with a 60-second target block time and a fixed maximum supply of 231,000,000 KV5. The network is designed around quantum-resistant ownership, large-scale settlement, full-node validation, and compatibility infrastructure for miners, exchanges, custodians, and other blockchain operators.
Project Background
KVANTA5 is a standalone peer-to-peer blockchain rather than a token or sidechain. Its consensus layer uses SHA-256 Proof of Work, while its transaction system introduces P2QR, a native ownership model designed around post-quantum digital signatures.
KV5 uses ML-DSA-87, the NIST FIPS 204 standardized post-quantum signature scheme, as the foundation for its native transaction authorization. The project specifies Security Level 5, corresponding to an AES-256 security category, for its signature system.
The network targets 60-second blocks and uses a Dark Gravity Wave difficulty adjustment system with adjustments performed on a per-block basis. This allows mining difficulty to respond to changes in network hashrate while maintaining the target block interval.
KVANTA5 also supports wrapped P2SH-style P2QR addresses for compatibility with mining pools, exchanges, and infrastructure that relies on established address formats. Native P2QR addresses use the kvqr1 prefix.
The blockchain is designed to support large settlement transactions and high-output transaction structures. The protocol supports blocks of up to 32 MB and uses V2_FRAGMENT propagation to divide large blocks into smaller fragments for network transmission.
History
KVANTA5 launched its mainnet on June 1, 2026. From genesis, the network was designed around SHA-256 Proof of Work and mandatory ML-DSA-87 signatures for its native post-quantum transaction system.
The project introduced P2QR as a native transaction output system intended to place quantum-resistant ownership directly within the blockchain's transaction layer rather than relying on an optional application-level protection mechanism.
The first non-coinbase P2QR spend was confirmed at block 283 on June 2, 2026. The network subsequently demonstrated its ability to process large P2QR transaction structures, including a transaction containing 715,001 P2QR outputs in a June 2026 mainnet block.
KVANTA5 has continued development of its node software, explorer infrastructure, wallet software, mining compatibility, transaction tooling, and network monitoring. The project maintains its core implementation through the Kvanta5-Core repository and publishes tagged software releases for network participants.
The project is focused on developing KV5 as a long-term settlement network with post-quantum ownership, large transaction capacity, and infrastructure intended for miners, exchanges, custodians, institutional operators, and other participants requiring independent blockchain settlement.
Tokenomics and Emissions
KV5 has a fixed maximum supply of 231,000,000 coins. Of this amount, 210,000,000 KV5 are distributed through Proof of Work mining, while 21,000,000 KV5 were created at block 1 as a consensus-enforced development reserve.
The initial block reward is 50 KV5, with a target block time of 60 seconds. The mining reward is scheduled to halve every 2,100,000 blocks, approximately every four years based on the target block interval.
The mineable supply is distributed through successive emission eras, with the block reward reducing from 50 KV5 to 25 KV5, then 12.5 KV5, and continuing through subsequent halvings until the mineable allocation is exhausted.
The 21,000,000 KV5 development reserve is subject to consensus-enforced time locks. The allocation is scheduled to unlock in 21 tranches of 1,000,000 KV5 every six months over approximately 10.5 years.
The development reserve is allocated across core development, security audits, infrastructure, and legal and compliance activities. The project states that locked tranches cannot be spent before their scheduled consensus-defined unlock heights.
KVANTA5 launched without an ICO or presale. New publicly distributed KV5 enters circulation through Proof of Work mining, while the separate development reserve follows its predefined consensus-enforced release schedule.
Roadmap
KVANTA5's development roadmap centers on expanding its post-quantum settlement infrastructure, improving network capacity, and building the tooling required for miners, node operators, exchanges, custodians, and institutional users.
Current development includes continued work on Kvanta5 Core, P2QR transaction functionality, wallet software, large transaction handling, block propagation, explorer infrastructure, and monitoring tools. The project also continues development of mining and node infrastructure for the live mainnet.
Future infrastructure development is focused on expanding institutional settlement capabilities, improving custody and transaction tooling, supporting additional exchange and infrastructure integrations, and increasing the operational tooling available to node and mining operators.
KVANTA5 also intends to continue refining its post-quantum transaction architecture and large-scale settlement capabilities as the network develops, while maintaining SHA-256 Proof of Work as its underlying consensus mechanism.
