Introduction

Flux (FLUX), originally launched as ZelCash, is a decentralized Layer 1 blockchain and cloud computing ecosystem designed to provide distributed infrastructure for applications, compute, storage, and AI workloads. The network is powered by independently operated FluxNodes distributed across multiple countries and uses FLUX as its native cryptocurrency.

Flux combines its blockchain with decentralized cloud infrastructure, allowing users to deploy applications and access computing resources across a globally distributed network. FLUX is used for network transactions, node rewards, application deployments, cloud resources, staking, and activity throughout the Flux ecosystem.

Project Background

Flux is designed as a decentralized alternative to traditional cloud infrastructure. Its network of independently operated nodes provides computing resources that can be used for applications, websites, blockchain infrastructure, AI workloads, storage, and other cloud services.

The Flux ecosystem includes FluxCloud for decentralized application hosting, FluxEdge for distributed computing and GPU resources, FluxOS for managing applications and infrastructure, and FluxNodes that provide the underlying resources used by the network.

FLUX is the native cryptocurrency of the network. It is used to pay for applications and computing resources, participate in the network through node operation and staking, and provide rewards to participants contributing infrastructure.

Flux currently operates using Proof of Useful Work v2, which shifted block production and transaction validation from traditional GPU mining to FluxNodes. The network targets approximately 30-second blocks under the current consensus model.

History

Flux began as ZelCash on January 31, 2018. The project initially focused on decentralized blockchain infrastructure and later expanded into a broader ecosystem of nodes, applications, and decentralized cloud services.

In 2021, ZelCash was rebranded as Flux, accompanied by the launch of FluxOS and a broader focus on decentralized cloud computing. The network subsequently expanded its node infrastructure, application hosting capabilities, parallel assets, and developer ecosystem.

Flux continued expanding its infrastructure through FluxCloud, decentralized storage, FluxEdge, and AI-related services. The ecosystem also introduced the Zelcore and SSP applications for managing assets and interacting with the broader Flux network.

In 2025, Flux introduced Proof of Useful Work v2, moving the network toward a node-centric consensus model in which FluxNodes handle block production and transaction validation. The transition also reduced the target block time from approximately two minutes to 30 seconds and changed the network's emission structure.

In 2026, Flux continued development of its decentralized cloud platform, enterprise infrastructure, AI services, VPN network, application deployment tools, and the next generation of its blockchain and cloud architecture.

Tokenomics and Emissions

FLUX is the native cryptocurrency of the Flux blockchain. Under the current Proof of Useful Work v2 model, the network has a maximum supply cap of 560,000,000 FLUX.

The current block reward is 14 FLUX per block, distributed across the FluxNode tiers and the ecosystem development fund. Cumulus nodes receive 1 FLUX, Nimbus nodes receive 3.5 FLUX, Stratus nodes receive 9 FLUX, and 0.5 FLUX is allocated to the development fund.

Emissions are reduced by 10% annually under the current model, with the long-term target of reaching approximately 1% annual inflation by 2036. The network also incorporates burning, locking, and staking mechanisms as part of its broader supply model.

FLUX is used to pay for application deployments and computing resources across the Flux ecosystem. It is also distributed as a reward to FluxNode operators that provide infrastructure and help secure and operate the network.

Roadmap

Flux's current roadmap focuses on consolidating its decentralized cloud products, expanding infrastructure services, improving developer tools, and building toward an increasingly automated cloud environment.

Current and near-term development includes the consolidation of FluxCloud and FluxEdge into a unified platform, a redesigned deployment interface, deployment from Git, managed databases, private overlay networks, improved domain management, marketplace expansion, and additional enterprise services.

The roadmap also includes an SDK, CLI and MCP server for agent-driven deployments, payment-based account access, expanded inference services, and continued development of decentralized VPN infrastructure and enterprise onboarding.

Further planned development includes Progressive Node Rewards v2, main-chain pruning, VPS services, preview environments, additional infrastructure services, privacy improvements, post-quantum research, and changes to the network's parallel asset structure.

Flux's roadmap is published as a set of development plans and priorities, with implementation progressing through the project's public development process.
